KOLKATA PRIDE MONTH HEALTH CAMP: A queer and trans-affirming health initiative for the LGBTQIA+ community of Kolkata
The Kolkata Pride Month Health Camp is a sensitisation and advisory camp that has been a cornerstone of the Kolkata Pride Month from its very beginning, meant to be a safe where members of the LGBTQIA+ community can come and seek health advice, get free check-ups and also participate in awareness and sensitisation sessions and workshops. This year the first initiative of the Health Camp will coincide with the Queernival.
Date: 1 December 2024
Time: 10am - 8pm
Place: Maddox Square
The programme for the Health Camp includes:
- Basic health investigations such as blood pressure, glucose tests and other clinical advice
- Psycho-social counselling as per the requirement
- Posters highlighting HIV/AIDS and mental health issues, designed for the poster competition, will be showcased at the stall
- “Mon Kemoner Golpo”, a street play, on mental health challenges faced by the LGBTQIA+ community due to stigma and discrimination in everyday life
- A Quiz contest focused on HIV/AIDS and related health concerns
As Queernival coincides with World AIDS Day, it becomes a powerful occasion to celebrate diversity while advocating for awareness and rights around HIV/AIDS. A candlelight remembrance will be held to honor those who have lost their lives to HIV/AIDS and to reaffirm our commitment to the ongoing fight for health, dignity and rights for all affected by this epidemic.
